Welcome to Squamish's weekly conscious dance practice!

Step onto the floor, let go of the week, and move however your body wants. Our weekly dance space is a judgment-free, come-as-you-are gathering where you can explore movement, connect with yourself, and soak in the energy of the group. Each week, a carefully curated DJ journey guides you through different beats, rhythms, bass lines, and soulful melodies. There is no choreography, no talking on the dance floor, and no pressure to “dance right.” Just show up, follow the music, and see where your body takes you. The space is held with care to create a safe, welcoming environment. Whether you are stomping, swaying, stretching, spinning, or just taking a moment of stillness, you are free to express yourself fully. By the end, the room often feels like a temporary tribe. We strive to feel connected, energized, and alive. Perfect for anyone looking to release stress, connect with their body, and experience the joy of movement. Come as you are and dance your heart out.

Our Principles

We strive to maintain consistency and integrity through our events. Please read our principles below and reach out if you have any quesitons.

Freedom of Expression

We honour each person’s unique way of moving and encourage authentic embodiment without judgment.

Respect and Consent

Mutual respect, mindful boundaries, and consent are foundational to the safety and integrity of the container.

Honour Cycles and Seasons

We recognize and celebrate natural rhythms, seasonal changes, and cycles of life within our gatherings. Nature-based teachings from all around the world are used in this setting.

Inclusivity

We strive to create a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds, identities, abilities, ages, and bodies.

Dance as Medicine

We honour the dance as a sacred practice that can include prayer, ritual, emotion, and authentic presence. All religions, spirituality, and beliefs are accepted here.

Non-violent space

Dance Temple holds space for personal liberation from internal systems of oppression and fosters inner freedom. We do not tolerate violence of any kind.

Non-verbal dancefloor

Dance Temple is a primarily non-verbal environment, allowing expression through movement rather than speech.

Begin and End Together

Opening and closing together supports intention setting, connection, and collective presence. We strive to be present for the entirety of the session and respect the time together.

Cell-phone free

No cell-phones on the dance floor. Please leave them behind in the mudroom and silence them. Photos and videos are only permitted on select evenings with consent.

Our
Story

Ecstatic Dance in Squamish began as a creative sanctuary run by a small collective seeking a safe space to dance and express themselves. It was revitalized after the pandemic by the passionate Enliven Wellness Festival organizers, who recognized its importance in the community. Today, it thrives on the motivation and energy of all attendees, fostering an inclusive, supportive, and allied environment where everyone can come together to celebrate movement and connection. We strive to collaborate with local musicians and DJs to create unique experiences every week.  Join us in this community, where every heartbeat and every step is a testament to our shared journey. Dance Temple Squamish is a weekly conscious dance gathering rooted in movement, presence, and community. We come together to create a safe, intentional space where people are invited to move freely, listen deeply, and reconnect with themselves and one another through embodied expression. Our dances are held as a ceremonial container. Each gathering begins and ends together, supporting a shared sense of intention, safety, and integration. Within this space, we practice being fully present in our bodies, allowing music and movement to guide us beyond words and into felt experience. We stay grounded in values of consent, respect, and inclusivity. All bodies, identities, ages, and levels of dance experience are welcome. The dance floor is a non verbal space where communication happens through awareness, boundaries, and movement rather than conversation. We encourage dancers to honour their own needs while remaining mindful of others, helping to maintain a culture of trust and care. This space is stewarded by a dedicated team of organizers who are committed to holding the integrity of the container each week. Through reliability, clear boundaries, and shared responsibility, we support a consistent environment where the magic of the dance can unfold. This group is part of the broader lineage of Dance Temple gatherings worldwide, while remaining deeply connected to the local community and the land we gather on. Whether you come to move, release, connect, or simply be, you are welcome here just as you are.

Celebrating Dance Community & Culture

At Dance Temple Squamish, we gather with deep gratitude on the unceded, ancestral, and living lands of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, the Squamish Nation. Since time immemorial, these lands have been cared for through teachings that honor balance, relationship, and reverence for all life. Dance has long been a vital expression of culture for the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people, carrying story, memory, ceremony, and connection across generations. As a community devoted to movement, we recognize that dance is inseparable from land, history, and responsibility. We acknowledge the enduring presence, sovereignty, and cultural vitality of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation, and we commit to ongoing learning, humility, and relationship as we move, connect, and celebrate together on this land.
